The Circus

Two or three. One day covers the Circus, Independence Square, the museum, the market and Brimstone Hill; a second takes the scenic railway, Romney Manor and the peninsula beaches. Add a day for the ferry to Nevis.
When is the best time to visit Basseterre?+
December to April, the dry season. Sugar Mas runs from mid-December to 2 January and the Music Festival fills Warner Park in late June. August to October is the height of the hurricane season.
How do you get from the airport to Basseterre?+
By taxi. Robert L. Bradshaw International is about 3 km from downtown. Book at the taxi booth outside arrivals, where fares are fixed by zone and the same for up to four riders.
How do you get from Basseterre to Nevis?+
By passenger ferry from the Basseterre pier to Charlestown, 25 to 45 minutes, or on the Sea Bridge car ferry from Majors Bay to Cades Bay if the hire car is coming. Check the last boat back before you cross.
How do you visit Brimstone Hill Fortress?+
Drive or take a taxi up the leeward coast road towards Sandy Point Town. The fortress opens daily from 9:30am to 5:30pm, except Good Friday and Christmas Day; entry is US$15, half price for children 12 and under.

  • The fire of 4 July 1867 levelled the town east of West Square Street; the Circus came out of the rebuild.
